Uncountable and Countable Nouns

It is quite tricky to differentiate between countable and uncountable nouns. Lets look at a few examples before we learn how to differentiate between these two.

Countable Nouns:

Singular Form
Chair
Pen
Table
Cup

Plural Form
Chairs
Pens
Tables
Cups

Uncountable Nouns:

Singular Form
Salt
Sugar
Water

Plural Form
Salt
Sugar
Water

Steps to determine "Uncountable Nouns" and "Countable Nouns":

Countable Nouns

Step 1: Look at the plural form of the word.
example: chair (singular) chairs (plural)

Step 2: If the plural form of the words has "s" then it is a countable noun.

Uncountable Nouns

Step 1: Look at both the singular and plural form of the word.
example: water (singular) water(plural)

Step 2: Notice that both the singular and plural form of the word remain the same = No "s"
Thus, this is an uncountable noun.
